Day 1 - Top 5 Lipsticks

So this time I’m going to do a countdown of my top 5 lipsticks. I think lipstick can change your whole makeup look, lighter neutral shades are great for during the day, and deep red and plummy shades can create a great night look. All of the lipsticks in this list are affordable and come in a range of shades, so hopefully you may be able to find some new lipsticks to try out.

5. To start the countdown I’m going to talk about the Collection Lasting Colour lipsticks. I have three shades of these lipsticks: China Rose (very much a ‘your lips but better’ shade), Seduction (a gorgeous plummy pink colour) and Blackberry Fool (a very deep purple) and they are all very wearable, okay so Blackberry Fool is a little harder to pull off as it is very dark, but it’s still great for an evening look, and the other two shades are definitely very easy to wear. These come in a range of colours, they are very affordable and they last a pretty long time as well. These lipsticks also smell lovely, to me they smell like marshmallow and I do think that’s really nice, as I love scented lip products. These are a great price for the quality of the product, and for everyday wear they are pretty great. Link

4. Next is the Body Shop Colourglide lipstick (I believe that’s what it is called, there is no name on the packaging). I wouldn’t really count this as a lipstick, but more of a tinted balm, because although it is pigmented it is much glossier and doesn’t last as long as a normal lipstick. That being said, these lipsticks are really lovely, they’re very subtle and are great to just give you a little pop of colour instead of a very intense lip look. This is a lipstick that I use of days when I don’t really want to wear lipstick but want just a little bit of colour. Link

3. Next up is the Revlon Colourburst lip crayons. I have these in the shades Sultry (a deep, but neutral pink) and Standout (a deep red). I really love lip crayons because I find them so easy to use and they’re great to just pop into your handbag for when you’re on the go. These balms are highly pigmented, and although they are matte they don’t dry out your lips. These also last on the lips for a really long time, and don’t leave you with a really awkward line of colour around your lips whilst the rest of the lipstick has disappeared. The only con for some people may be the scent, which is very minty and fresh; however I really love the scent of these. Link

2. The Natural Collection lipsticks are another favourite of mine, because although they may not compete with other drugstore lipsticks they give you the best bang for your buck. These lipsticks have a pretty huge shade range, and I have four shades: Raspberry (a very pretty deep pink colour), Berry Sorbet (a slightly plummy colour), Cranberry (A very neutral pink with a hint of shimmer) and Rose Bud (a ‘your lips but better’ shade) and all are very wearable. Admittedly, the packaging of these lipsticks isn’t great as it is made of white plastic which cracks easily, however these lipsticks are less than £2 each, and so the packaging isn’t a massive issue for me. These lipsticks last quite a long time, are very pigmented and don’t dry out your lips, and for the price I’d recommend checking them out. Link

1. In first place is the Barry M Lip Genie lipstick. The first thing to note about the lipstick is that it’s green, yes, you read that right, this lipstick is very bright green! However, that’s not something to worry about, once applied to your lips this lipstick adapts to your PH level (I believe) and becomes a lovely pink shade. On me this lipstick becomes a fairly deep pink, and the swatch doesn’t do it much justice at all. This lipstick lasts for a very long time and I find that the colour of the lipstick perfectly matches my skin tone. I will admit that I find this lipstick slightly drying, but lip balm over the top really helps to prevent this from happening. For the price, longevity and novelty factor of this lipstick it’s a real winner for me. Link

I hope this countdown was somewhat helpful for you, and I hope that it might make you check out a few new lip products as well : )
